Sam Brakeley I set myself a schedule, and keep to it. By writing every day (or nearly every day), and making a habit of it, I'm able to (mostly) avoid writer's block. Some days I accomplish more, other days not so much. But I don't let that get me down, and the next day I sit right back down and have another go at it.

For each person, a schedule might be set up a little differently. You can tell yourself, "I'm going to write for an hour every day," or "I will write 500 words each day no matter how long it takes me." And some people work best in the morning (like myself). Others are night owls. But find what works best for you, create that schedule, and then stick to it!
Sam Brakeley I love the ability to share my experiences in the natural world through my writing. I get very excited about the outdoors and travelling under my own power, and to be able to share that with others is truly special
Sam Brakeley The same advice that I have for aspiring adventurers: Just go out and do it. If it seems daunting, that's because it is. It's a big undertaking. But if you don't take that first step, you'll never get to the finish!
Sam Brakeley Several new projects! I've been on a couple of trips recently, all of which I'm excited to share! Stay tuned!
Sam Brakeley Simply put, I love going on outdoor adventures. Writing about them seemed like a natural extension. And I've found that it has become a way for me to experience the journey in a deeper and more permanent way. By writing about the trip after it's been completed, I'm able to further reflect on its impact and import in a way that I just can't in the midst of the rain, bugs and other challenges. Writing adds a totally new dynamic to the way in which I interact with the natural world, and I wouldn't trade that in for anything.
Sam Brakeley Skiing the Catamount Trail had long been a dream of mine. But it took a little longer to come up with the idea of combining my long-distance winter journey with that of Henry Knox. But I've always been a history enthusiast and so when I finally did put the two together in the same thought, it felt like a natural fit!
