The idea for Personified came from one of those previously mentioned conversations with a friend - possibly a brainstorming session. I don't really remember what the conversation was about, but I'm thankful for it! Without it, Personified may not have ever existed.

Everything around me inspires me. Sometimes I could just be having a conversation with a friend and a certain phrase will spark an idea. Other times it's movies or books, but a lot of the time it's being alone with my thoughts as I watch the rousing world around me.

I'm currently working on the sequel to Personified, along with a series called "The Starlight Tree" about fairies and adventure. It's a co-authored project and one that's been long in the making, but it's a project I'm really excited about. It's an enchanting world that I can't wait to share with all of you.

The most important thing to keep in mind is that you just have to keep writing. The more you write, the better you'll get. And read! Reading is important to, to see for yourself what a good book looks like. To see how other authors engage the reader. Read and learn from it. Then write! You can never write too much. Take risks, put yourself out there. Get criticized, and learn from that. And then go back and write some more.

As mentioned on my blog, the ability to express oneself through the construction of words while simultaneously transporting others into another world – your world – showing them what you see, making them feel what you feel, but also letting them compose their own images through the limitless of their imagination, all as a result of what you created, that is the gift that is literature. The feeling that comes from realizing such a creation is unparalleled. And that’s why I write. There is just something about it that touches my soul.

Whenever this happens, I try to switch my focus. Like if there's a certain scene I just can't get through, I'll move to a different scene or part of the story. I try not to force anything because that doesn't work, and typically results is shoddy writing. So in most cases, while I'm working on that other scene, the ideas that were previously evading me suddenly come flowing out as if they were there the entire time.
