Carlos Wallace I’ve learned not to force the words. Sometimes writer’s block is simply my mind telling me I need to experience more before I have something meaningful to say. I travel, change my surroundings, have conversations, observe people, and allow myself to live. Eventually, something I see, hear, or feel opens the door again. For me, writing has always been fueled by living.
Carlos Wallace The ability to leave something behind that can outlive me. Writing allows me to take what I’ve learned, questioned, survived, and observed and place it somewhere another person can find it when they need it. Long after a conversation ends or a room empties, the words remain. That is the greatest gift of being a writer to me.
Carlos Wallace Protect your vision, but don’t confuse protecting it with refusing to grow. Write what you believe needs to be written, listen to people who can make the work better, and learn the difference between criticism that sharpens you and opinions that simply distract you. Most importantly, finish. A great idea sitting unfinished on your computer cannot reach, challenge, comfort, or change anyone.
Carlos Wallace I write frequently across several platforms, with much of that work collected and accessible through my website. I use those spaces to explore ideas, challenge my own thinking, and follow subjects wherever they lead. Some remain essays and reflections, while others eventually grow into larger bodies of work and possible publications. I’ve learned not to rush that process. Sometimes you have to let the writing tell you what it wants to become.
Carlos Wallace Why Sell Lies When the Truth Is Free grew out of years of observing how easily we can become attached to the stories we tell ourselves, especially when the truth requires accountability, change, or an uncomfortable conversation. I wanted to explore honesty beyond simply telling the truth to other people. Sometimes the most consequential lies are the ones we accept about ourselves, our relationships, and the world around us. The book became my way of challenging those narratives and asking what becomes possible when we are willing to confront the truth.
