I don't know. On the one hand I feel like I can goof off with impunity but on the other hand I have two children who ask me -- why don't you have a real job like so and so's mother, and why do you stare outside the window so much and you drink too much -- so I guess I have to say everything is good about being a writer.

I am currently working on the plot for my second book. It doesn't mean I'm writing it down -- what I mean to say is I'm thinking about it -- I tend to think more than I write; and edit more than I think, and the writing just kind of falls in between.

I get an idea, like a flash in my head and think 'Wow -- that'd make a good short story.' Then I get lazy and procrastinate and never do anything about it.
