Pete Carter The one I'm writing now? I was messing about with Photoshop and one of those 'what if?' questions popped up. This prompted me to look at the NASA photos of Mars; this led to the conspiracy sites and fake pictures of alleged artifacts on the surface of the Red Planet; I googled for a particular website domain, and there isn't one. So watch out for 'The Museum of Alien Artifacts', coming to a Kindle store near you - soon! (November 2014 -ish). Apart from an artifact that (probably) doesn't exist, and a very unusual person, it's more a mystery thriller than SF.
Pete Carter Everyday 'what if?' things. Or sometimes I just dream up a title and work a story around that. 'The Day Uncle Jimmy Learned to Fly' is an example. The story turned out completely differently to my one para synopsis, thanks to a unique set of characters who had different ideas to me.
Pete Carter A compendium of short SF stories. All are based in the current time, more or less. Two are complete and the third has turned itself into a novel, so will be published separately. That means I've got to write another before I can publish a trilogy of short stories.
Pete Carter Go for it! Make notes before you start, and as you go along, to keep track of things, dates, places. Saves hours of referring back: 'Where exactly did Joe hide his laptop? That kind of thing.
Pete Carter Wondering what the next chapter is going to bring.
Pete Carter I let my characters take over, and just sit there typing what they tell me.
