Laura Lis Scott Either I write anyway, or I avoid writing. Most often I get blocked when I subconsciously know I have a problem I need to solve. That's where long walks and afternoon power naps can help. But writing, just writing—freewriting—always ends up the most effective.
Laura Lis Scott Write. Show it to people. Write more. Rinse. Repeat.
Laura Lis Scott I am working on the upcoming installments of The Candidate's Maid series, as well as rewriting a science fiction space opera epic. Yeah, completely different! On the back burner, I have a comedic fantasy epic half written. I also dash off short stories now and then when I need to take a break from the longer work to get some distance.
Laura Lis Scott Years ago, I wrote the first paragraph of The Candidate's Maid. It had no title then, it was just a paragraph that came to me. In 2014 I decided to expand on it, and it became a full-length novel. What inspired me? I guess I've always had a bit of a sarcastic, snarky side when it comes to politics. It's a good thing I didn't try to get the book published in 2014, because what I thought were outrageously satirical politics back then have become documented fact today. So now I'm releasing the book in series, adapting to the modern political age.
