Debi Barrington Merchant One of the "great" mysteries of my life involves a dog I had until I was seven. Jip was a beautiful collie, and for reasons that I never fully understood my parents gave him away. Thank you for the idea. That would be a great mystery to solve in my imagination.
Debi Barrington Merchant Dancing in the Garage is a metaphor of my life. When I clean my garage, I turn the music up loud and I dance through one task to another, throwing out some things, rearranging some things, cleaning somethings. In the book I "dance" through several events (both good and bad) in my life, and tell how humor and a lasting faith in God got me through them.
Debi Barrington Merchant I think it's because I grew up reading, and just developed a love for the written word. I first got the bug to write when I was 13 years old.
Debi Barrington Merchant I'm currently working on the second book in my "dancing" series, as well as a novel set in my hometown of Hanahan, SC.
Debi Barrington Merchant My advice for aspiring writers is NEVER GIVE UP ON YOUR DREAM. Even if you have to write during lunch/breaks at your current job, do it! Write, write, write. Get involved with others who share your love of writing. Take classes. Don't despair. Believe in yourself.
Debi Barrington Merchant The best thing about being a writer is that I'm living my dream! It was 41 years in the making, but totally worth the wait.
