Carol Bosselman Hard choice!! Perhaps Harry Potter's world...close enough to our own to have some familiarity. But with Magic and fantastic creatures. And if course I'd love to spend a week with the Weasleys.
Carol Bosselman Lots! My Kindle is loaded up. But some things I want to delve more deeply into include Brandon Sanderson's Elantris books, and The Hollow (the sequel to Mrs Peregrines School). Also, I have to cut back on the reading just a bit, and ramp up the writing, as I've been getting a lot of folks asking about the 3rd Trials book.
Carol Bosselman Without getting too into detail....who my real mother is. I got enough to fuel an entire Lifetime movie, but it's not something I discuss a lot.
Carol Bosselman That's a good one, since the genres I read tend to not be couple-friendly (someone's always getting killed off). I do enjoy Richard and Kahlaan from the Sword of Truth/Confessor books by Terry Goodkind. Unlike a lot of fictional love, its the kind of love that has grown...not a "bam! love at first sight and I don't even know him/her yet", or purely physical attraction, but one that gets deeper and stronger through all their trials, nor are they constantly going on about sacrificing themselves for each other (a la Sam and Dean in Supernatural). Their choices, while based in love, are still intelligent, and rational, and in keeping with their characters. I think their love is one of the more realistic, true loves in the fictional realms.
Carol Bosselman Sharing your characters. If the book never does well, there are still people out there who've now met Frank, and Azzie, and Sun, and care for them like I do. That's rewarding.
Carol Bosselman It's hard. I sit at the computer and immediately start gaming. I generally have to force myself, unless I get a sudden inspiration, like a scene or a conversation popping into my head. Then I have to write it down or it won't get out of my head.
Carol Bosselman The whole series started from Dungeons & Dragons, which I began playing in high school. Azbaelus was originally a drow cleric/fighter, for those familiar with the Greyhawk and Forgotten Realms worlds, opposed to the chaotic evil of Lloth. The world of Ylithriel...by the Lord and Lady, don't laugh at me....that nocturnal world was a brain fart inspired by Rocky Horror, and the line "sweet Transexual, land of night"....
Carol Bosselman Be true to yourself. As in, have faith. Take nothing personally. And pepper experience into all of your writing. Ok, so maybe as a fantasy writer you're working with elves and dragons, but they have personalities, and traits, they have a physiology, an ecology....on some level, your audience has to be able to relate to them.
Carol Bosselman Untitled, the 3rd of the Trials of a Demon Prince series. I'm also trying to make more miniature marionettes, now that I can collect sales tax, so I have some inventory for vendor shows.
Carol Bosselman 2 things: sleeping, and drawing. Sometimes, if I manage to sleep with a scene on my mind, I will have a dream that helps point me in a direction. Or I'll just lay there until something hits me (doesn't work that often and is frustrating).
More often, I'll do some drawings and storyboard a scene out. This is why I have so many illustrations of the characters. Drawing them enough oftens make their dialogue pop into my head.
