When writing doesn't flow, I do something else such as make furniture, or do some research for the next book. Although sitting in a bar with a pint or a glass of wine in front of you and a notebook on the table also has remarkably stimulating effect.

As a fairly new, and hardly successful writer, I'm not really qualified to comment, but I used the modest income from my first book to hire a professional freelance editor when I published the second book, and that was a revelation. Definitely worth doing.

I've always read books. Loved them, all sorts. Many of them were stupendous, but some were fairly ordinary, and I thought that I could do better. It took me a long while to actually grow a pair and start writing, and whether or not I can write is something only those who read my books can decide, but it's promising so far......
