Don't rush to failure. YOU HAVE TIME! There is no need to rush your project to the market/editor/internet. Take your time. Write the best book you can, set it aside, then after some time come back to it, read it and begin rewriting it.
Also, when you send you manuscript out for critiques or betas, LISTEN to what your readers are telling you. You don't have to agree with everything, but if the majority of your readers are saying the same thing, you might want to pay attention to that.
Oh, and have a thick skin! If you ask for honest advice and they give it, don't be offended or angry when they say that "this is bad" or "this needs a lot of work". Find out why they are saying those things and fix it.
And most of all: HAVE FUN!

I read a lot! Reading is usually my number one source of inspiration. And the fantastic thing is, there is a never ending source of inspiration out there!

Creating something from nothing and knowing people are enjoying it. I've been writing stories since I was 14 years old, and now, with Indie publishing I can share them with the world. It's always fun to see the numbers on my sales dashboard telling me people are reading my stories.

I'm not sure if I've ever been affected by writer's block.
There have been several days where I just didn't want to write, but in my head I knew what I needed to write. There are always a constant stream of ideas and concepts flowing through my mind, sometimes I just don't want to sit and type.

For Second Star I was brainstorming ideas for new material and though it might be cool to take a well known children's story or fairy tale and turn it on it's end.
I thought Peter Pan might work well with a science fiction twist and thought Pan would make a pretty interesting antagonist.
