Nicholas Kotar Hi Amelia! I think the best thing a writer can do is never stop learning the craft of writing. Read a lot, practice, find someone you can learn from. It's a wonderful life-long journey :) Have fun!
Nicholas Kotar Hi Cassidy! Thank you so much for your kind words. Writer's block is a tricky thing. I actually don't think it exists. I think it's just an external manifestation of a problem either with me (need to take a break from writing to do some reading) or with the story (I took a wrong turn and my creative voice is lost in the wilderness). Usually reading solves both problems, especially (oddly) reading in a different genre from what I'm writing. It helps clear things up nicely.

2) Reader's block... hm... I think for me it's just a trip to Barnes and Noble to wander around and look in sections of the bookstore I normally don't read. If a cover jumps out, I grab it. Then I take the whole stack I've collected, go to the cafe, and read the first page of each of the books. If something sparks me (no matter the genre), I'll buy the book. That really helps get me out of funks.

3) What an interesting question! I'm not even sure... I think it's the scene where Voran and Sabíana talk under the mountain of Vasyllia, before they get into Garden in the heart of the world. Just being there with them after such a long absence... I felt their pain and their joy as I wrote. Also, any scene between Khaidu and the Hag is just so much fun to write. The Hag might be be my favorite character :)

4) The Lord of the Rings. Hands down.

Thanks, Cassidy!
Nicholas Kotar Hi Vadim! That's the "chronological order" and it can be read like that, yes. But I have a hunch that some readers might appreciate The Rusted Blade better if they've read the Song of the Sirin first. Both should work :)
Nicholas Kotar Thanks, Isaac! I'm actually working on a second edition of Raven Son, which will hopefully improve on some weaknesses and will better fit some unexpected developments in the sequel. I'm about a hundred pages into the first draft of the second novel as well.
