Emma Gates As can be seen from my novels, I'm always interested in the experience people from different cultures have of each other, whether encountered in one's 'home' country or in another's. I'm particularly drawn to the study of relationships between countries who would seem to be uncomfortable partners yet who are allies on the world stage.
Emma Gates I hear voices in my head all the time and am also a constant observer of what's around me - inside, outside, walking, driving - it seems there's an unending monologue which translates onto paper easily if not in deathless prose;)
Emma Gates We all have stories. You can start out just by writing for yourself in a simple notebook, and then sit in on a short workshop (local libraries have many on offer), and then join a writer's group if you get to feeling bolder. I also like the NaNoWriMo and NaPoWriMo jump-start sessions; whatever you produce can be a genesis for longer or deeper pieces.
Emma Gates Giving voice/personification/all senses to the characters in my head :)
Emma Gates I simply pick up a pen or pencil and start writing anything that comes to mind in my journal! Poetry is a great word-bringer: a simple haiku can bust up the logjam.
