Darren Scanlon This is book three of a thriller series so it's a continuation of a long story. I suppose book one was an experiment to see if I could write a convincing adult action thriller. It turned out to be based in the English northwest, (as am I), and so has a certain 'northern' feel to it and the characters dialogues are full of my sarcastic, dry witty humour to keep a healthy balance between that and the action and violence.
Darren Scanlon May things inspire me. My poetry, especially, is inspired by daily events in my life, (songs, books, sights, sounds, smells...the list is endless), along with the state of the world and politics.

My comedy novel, "Hey Up, Matron!" was inspired by my own real life experiences in hospitals over the last decade.

I also love exploring the inner child that we all have within us somewhere. I love writing little comical and some would rightly say, childish poems. I have, amongst others, a series of ballads about different animals called "The Ballad Of The Bald Hedgehog" or "...The Frightened Eagle" etc. These are always fun to work on.

Inspiration can come from literally anywhere/
Darren Scanlon I have just shelved one project called "Way Back When", which is about book comparing childhood nowadays with what it was like when I was growing up back in the late 60' and through the 70's. I hit writers block with it and left it untouched for months so I shelved it for now.

I have just started the third book in my Danny Roberts action/thriller series.

Along with this I am constantly writing and publishing poetry and attacking the daily task of self publishing and promoting my work across many web and social media sites.
Darren Scanlon Just go for it! Write and write and write. Don't worry about if its any good or if the grammar or spelling is correct, just get the words down. You can go back and refine it later, adding things...taking them away...re-writing entire sections.

Above all though...enjoy what you do. Don't push yourself too hard or you run the risk of it all becoming a chore and you will start to lose sight of why you started writing in the first place.
Darren Scanlon If a writer is honest then the best thing would be seeing their hours, days, weeks or months of toil finally pay off when you can look on websites or book shop shelves and see you completed book up there with all the others.

I enjoy writing, (especially my poetry) and I enjoy the idea that a part of me will always live on; a legacy to leave behind for my loved ones.

If somebody likes what I have done and tells me so...then that is the cherry on the cake!
Darren Scanlon I'm currently suffering with that my self so I'm open to ideas. The poems still flow like water but the novels are a struggle these days. In all fairness its probably to do with my medical conditions and all the meds I take on a daily basis but I don't seem to be able to focus for very long.
