Writing. Finding. Opening the midden of words.

A book of things. Things are beyond us. They withdraw into themselves and are often ignored; they hide other things and are hidden in them. Each thing is bigger on the inside. We want them to obey but they often don't. Sometimes you can hear the thinking of things. Sometimes they dream. Sometimes we are inside their dreams. As things ourselves. There are word things. There are things that don't exist. There are objects loved by collectors, and there are tools of use, but things are before these.
This book invites the reader to a small inquiry into and celebration of a random disassortment of things, some of which we may actually recognize as things, some perhaps not. The book -- a thing itself --recognizes them by rethinking them, rethinking them as being in a place as important as the one we often give ourselves. In doing so it offers the experience of opaque reading: things to be encountered in unfamiliar landscapes.

I love the image; in a previous life perhaps I was an Imagiste. And the whole fraught world of representation. I love things -- their texture, the fragrance, their thingness, how they thing. So what do I do, I go for walks looking. I take a camera.
