Virginia Vaughan Usually, I get writer's block because I've written most of the plot of my story and it's time to layer in the emotion and feeling. That doesn't come naturally for me and I always struggle with it. What I've found that helps me is, when I hit that wall, to take time out to read in my genre. It always gets my creative juices flowing again!
Virginia Vaughan The idea for my book COLD CASE COVER-UP, and the entire series idea, came after hearing about and reading about the events that happened in Benghazi. I read several books about the incident and remember one operative retelling how, when he was working in Delta, he recalled seeing a group of reporters and pondered how they would love to know the Delta members' super secret identities and plaster them all over the news media for the wold to see, thus ending their ability to work undercover. That sparked the idea for my heroine, investigative reporter Dana Lang, and my hero, covert operative Quinn Dawson, first meet.
Virginia Vaughan Thanks for the question, Ruby! I LOVED LOVED LOVED writing the hero of this story, Colton Blackwell. He was so beaten down and broken by survivor's guilt and a gambling addiction that overtook his life and cost him his career as an army ranger. Protecting Laura from a loanshark out to collect on her father's gambling debts by any means possible was the best redemption for him and enabled him to really understand just how much his addiction could hurt those he cared about.
