I attended an oral history workshop through an organization called Voice of Witness back in 2012 or 2013. The workshop provided the inspiration. I believe in the power of personal story and hearing people's perspectives who have a shared experience. I started an oral history project after attending the workshop that would ultimately become the book We Were Going to Change the World. I wanted to interview other women like me who are now in our middle or later years and ask them how the punk rock scene in Southern California in the 1970s/1980s impacted them. Was it a major influence on their lives? What was it about the scene that spoke to them back then? How were they involved? The book includes 37 interviews with these amazing women.
