Definitely, and a strange jumble it is! In no particular order: Kafka, Hemingway, Asimov, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Bernard Cornwell, Douglas Reeman, Robert Heinlein, Samuel Clemens, Dave Drake, and Andre Norton, just to name a few:)

Quite awhile:) As you suggest there's a lot of technical detail in Red Ice, more than I normally have to deal with, and I worked on the research aspect of the book for about a year before sitting down to write it.
Fortunately I was able to get help from some very knowledgeable, not to mention patient military officers, who proofed what I wrote and made suggestions. (They're listed under acknowledgements.)
Thanks for the question... Red Flood, the next book in the series, is available if you're interested.
Best always,
Bill

The muse delivers a concept and, if I think it's worthy, I write it down.
I rarely (if ever) go to work on the project immediately, but create a folder on my computer, and add things to it as they occur to me.

At the moment I'm working on the second volume of an alternative history series called The Winds of War.
The setting is right now, with a twist: WWIII is underway. Russia, China, Iran, Pakistan, and Syria are battling the U.S. and NATO countries for control of the world.
Each book follows a different set of characters as they confront a unique challenge. The first book is called RED ICE, and is available on Kindle.

Red Ice is a great read. I had a hard time holding onto the idea that it was going to turn out for the good. Characters were well developed and the plot line marched right along. Strongly recommend it.

Don't give up your day job. It's very difficult to make a living as a full-time writer.
But don't give up writing either.
After publishing my first novel, I wrote a book a year while holding down a corporate job, and did so for fifteen years.
Here's the formula: 1 page per day= 365 pages a year= 1 book.

The best thing about being a writer, is the freedom to lay down on my office floor, and take a nap when I want to.

I know writer's block can be a serious issue for some authors... But it hasn't been for me. Fingers crossed.
