There are a number of scenes that I love. I think the one I enjoyed writing the most was the scene where Meesha and Pinka, the two Siamese cats he finds himself living with, try to help him escape. It's nighttime, and they are sneaking through back yards to help him get out of the neighborhood. I also love Toby's dream scenes, especially the one where he meets his grandfather Strider.

A Place to Call Home was inspired by Toby, an abused dog I adopted from the Connecticut Humane Society. Though the book is a work of fiction, much of the plot is based on either actual events or on backstory details I was told about Toby at the time I adopted him.

To be honest, I haven't experienced writer's block yet. When I first sit down to write, I review what I wrote the previous session, make a few edits, and then just continue to let the story flow on paper. I always write freehand first.

Don't try to make it perfect right from the start. Let the words and ideas flow. There will be time for editing later.

My inspiration comes from my love of dogs and my desire to raise awareness of the plight of rescue dogs, not only in the United States, but around the world.
