Patty Seitz Hi Daisy - I did see your comment and thanks so much for your note. I sent you an email a few weeks ago that it sounds like you did not receive. I had mentioned that I'm not only from Akron, but my husband and I went to the Pumpkin Festival in Circleville when we were dating! I had also expressed to you how much your book meant to me. It now sits on my bookcase that Joe built for me where I keep special books and knick knacks. We get back to Akron every 2 years, which would have been this year, but obviously we now have to wait until next summer. Joe will be retiring in 2 years and then we hope to get back to small town living. The fun part is that we don't know yet where that will be, but looking forward to that new chapter! I will be checking out your other books soon! Take care.
Patty Seitz I don't know if this would make for a very good mystery novel, but the mystery in my life is my parents' wedding date! We found out after my mother died that she and my dad had to get married. This was in 1940 when such a thing was very scandalous. They eloped, but we don't know where or the date and can't find any records. Both parents would never tell us their anniversary, stating they forgot the date. No one forgets when they got married! I do have their divorce decree, so I know they did get married, but when and where remains a mystery. I do hope to solve it someday, and when I do, maybe that will make for a good story!
Patty Seitz They always say write what you know. My mother had a secret she took with her to her grave that her kids found out about after her death. Even her death is a mystery. She was also a single parent during a time when that was almost considered taboo. There were no support groups or people like Ellen giving money and cars away to single parents. She triumphed over a lot of tragedy in her life, along with a lot of humor too. So for now, my idea for this trilogy is my family.
Patty Seitz My main inspiration came from being laid off from my job in April of 2013. I have always loved to write (have written a lot regarding my former profession of medical transcription), but never really took the time for writing a novel. Even though I looked for work, I had the time to write, so I went for it and now happily working on novel #2. Obviously my main inspiration was my mom and her life--it was really quite remarkable.
Patty Seitz I'm currently working on my second novel of a trilogy. It didn't start out that way. My first novel, A Life Unplanned, is about the life of my mom, with the characters fictionalized to protect the privacy of family members (although they had fun figuring out who was who!). After I completed that novel, I decided to write my second novel about my mom's parents, and a little about her grandparents. The third novel will be about me and my husband, as we have had a wild journey in our 37 years of marriage.
Patty Seitz Well, I'm still an aspiring writer myself, having just published my first novel in May (2014), but the best advice I can offer is to have patience. It's so hard not to see a high number of sales, but I think if you really believe in your work, the numbers will get there. It all takes time, unless you know a Hollywood producer who wants to make your book into a movie, LOL!
Patty Seitz I'm not sure I can say one best thing. I love sharing my stories with family, friends and beyond. I love being on my own time, creating. I even love rewrites! I make a lot of notes and research as I write, so the entire process is pretty much a fun time for me.
Patty Seitz I am fortunate in that so far I have not had a lot of experience with writer's block, but when I do get a little stuck, I step away from my writing and do something else. Sometimes it's reading, playing a few puter games, baking (I love to bake) or sitting outside with some coffee and/or listening to music.
