My Kismet Knight, Vampire Psychologist books were inspired by a client session in my psychotherapy practice. After talking to a young woman who wanted to join a non-human group, I began to think about how interesting it would be for a psychotherapist to work with vampires and to find a gorgeous male vampire sitting in my waiting room.

Writing is a job to me. If I don't discipline myself and put my butt in the chair, words don't get typed, and sales don't happen. I think working for myself for so many years helped me keep my eye on the bottom line.

I have had the strangest publishing path of anyone I know. My series (3 books so far) has been published 3 times, the last publishing contract a world-wide deal. I am in the process of having the books revert back to me. Then I'll re-edit, get excellent covers that I select myself, and I'll self-publish them. My 3 series books have felt like I fell into Publishing Groundhog Day and I look forward to them being available to readers according to my vision. In addition, I'm working on the first book of a spinoff of my series and brainstorming other ideas.

The same advice everyone gives: keep writing. Every once in a while, read the statistics about how many people say they intend to write a book, how many of those people even begin to write a book, how many actually finish a book, how many submit the book for publication, and how many actually publish. That ought to encourage you to keep going. The fact that you FINISHED a book is cause for celebration. Everything after that is icing!

I've always enjoyed working for myself, so being a writer is another "self-employment" situation. The most fun aspect has been meeting other writers at groups, classes and conferences. Writing can be lonely, so it's great to have a community of like-minded sufferers!

I believe there is always an underlying reason when I can't write, so I try to figure out what that is. And, at the same time, I distract myself by doing something physical, watching a funny movie, or writing something different from my usual. When I figure out what the emotional/mental issue is, I take steps to heal/address it. Usually, that brings me back to the computer.
