Anna Akbari This was the book the I needed but couldn't find when I was a recent graduate in 2008 (at the time of the financial crisis). Finding happiness and small victories in chaos is something we're asked to do again and again over the course of our lives, and it's something startups do best. I also saw a gap in the self-help marketplace. Much of the self-help out there offers either general motivational encouragement or focuses on one single suggestion or approach to be happy and successful. Startup Your Life is a multi-faceted, accessible toolkit for living your best life and flourishing today -- not someday, after reaching multiple milestones.
Anna Akbari Things like taking a break, going for a run, eating some food all help -- but the number one thing that helps me move forward every time is having a conversation with someone about the topic or idea I'm trying to write about. Once I force myself to start articulating it and hear their responses, I almost always have a clear sense of where my focus should be and feel re-energized for another round of writing. Relationships are important even in a primarily solo pursuit like writing.
Anna Akbari Great writing is a combination of skill (+ practice) and discipline. One without the other won't deliver the results you're seeking. I think most first time authors also don't anticipate that the actual book writing is just a fraction of the entire book process, from conception to marketing. So you need to be willing to stick with it through the long-haul and develop your marketing chops along the way, as well.
