Kevin E. Hatt My most recent book (to be published in the next week, as I write) came from a line in the Duran Duran song: View to a Kill. It was the line: A chance to find a phoenix for the flame. I loved that line, and got the title Phoenix from the Flame, and built a story around it.
Kevin E. Hatt I loved writing when at school, but did little until I saw the TV series Lovejoy, starring Ian McShane. I then saw one of the Lovejoy narratives in a shop, and was inspired by Jonathan Gash's style. The inspiration for the first story came from the hospital student's bar, but enough said about that, as it would give away the plot of A Light in the Darkness - my first novel.
Kevin E. Hatt I'm currently working on the 19th in my Haszard series: Wessex Boy, which is inspired by the Frank Turner song of the same name. As with the song, the story is set in and around my home town of Winchester.
Kevin E. Hatt My advice to aspiring writers is write about what you know about. If you, for instance, are a car mechanic, make your primary character in that vein, rather than something such as a chartered accountant. That way, things will flow more freely.
Kevin E. Hatt The best thing about being a writer is providing other people with entertainment. Knowing that someone has enjoyed one of my creations gives me a buzz.
Kevin E. Hatt When writer's block occurs I simply leave the story alone for a few days, during which time inspiration comes from out of the blue.
