Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Clancy Hughes That’s a good question. As I think about your question, I’ve been writing this book one way or another since the Korean War. I was an economics major before the war with a focus on macroeconomic. Despite a lifetime of clinical medicine as a physician, I think I regretted not continuing with my goal of international commerce. I wrote frequently in a blog or just daydreamed about the evolution of trade.

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Clancy Hughes One other person asked this question. For me it’s a nobrainer. I go for exercise, one way or another. I don’t do well sitting for long periods. When I get outside, my imagination gets going.

If you could travel to any fictional book world, where would you go and what would you do there?

Clancy Hughes I would fantasize a role as a Navy pilot shooting several landings on an aircraft carrier with the feel of the aircraft on the approach and the snap of the tail hook on the arresting cable with sudden deceleration.

Clancy Hughes Write every day. Learn the basics of story, conflict, complication, failure, a new plan and resolution, often accompanied by a change in attitude.
