Lola Allen It's actually a non-fiction book, funnily enough. It was recommended by one of my students (I'm always blown away when teenagers read in their spare time, as so many young people today do not bother to read). It's called The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Mark Manson. It'll be my first non-fiction book in a while, as I'm normally addicted to fiction. Although I did read Mariah Carey's autobiography The Meaning of Mariah Carey shortly after it came out in 2020, and was completely blown away by it. I literally couldn't put it down, and read it all in one sitting. She is so articulate and one hell of a writer! She has also been through a lot and dealt with it all tremendously, which makes me admire her even more.
Lola Allen Probably the mystery of how I met my husband, as it wasn't your usual 'boy meets girl' scenario! This now gives me an idea for my next novel... ;-)
Lola Allen The room was shrouded in darkness; the only sound to be heard was the constant dripping from a tap that seemed to be coming from the far corner. Stumbling on something as I crept along the hallway, I realised it was a foot… it appeared to be severed and dripping in blood.
Lola Allen I would love to Wakanda - although, I know that technically, it's from a comic, not a book. It just looks so awesome and like it'd be a real blast!

I'd probably just hang out with some of the people from Wakanda and have a whale of a time (while admiring the scenery and checking out some of the hi-tech gadgets). I might even improve my combat skills while I'm at it!!
Lola Allen I've just finished writing an erotic romance called The Professor (due to be published tomorrow). The first chapter was sitting unattended in a folder on my computer for absolutely ages (I haven't written anything since 2015). I happened to stumble upon it one day (June this year), and when I read it, I was immediately drawn in as I remembered the story and the inspiration behind it. I decided that this summer, I would make it my mission to finish it - and so said, so done!

I began to write it during my MA Creative Writing course (I had one hell of a crush on the Creative Writing tutor, who also taught me for the duration of the course - it was a wonder I managed to get any work done at all!) it is entirely fictional, and was a lot of fun to write! Some of the writing advice the professor gave, was true, though!
Lola Allen In short: life. Things that happen to me, or people that I know. People that inspire or leave a lasting impression on me, and most certainly emotions. A lot of my writing is hypothetical, where I create a character by placing myself in someone else's shoes - be it the protagonist or antagonist. Other time it's based on real events - especially where a lot of emotion is concerned. As a child, I used a diary to record my thoughts and feelings, as an adult, and writer, I use stories.
Lola Allen I'm currently working on a collection of short stories and another novel/novella, so watch this space!
Lola Allen Just keep writing, don't stop! On a bad day, take a break and seek inspiration elsewhere, but don't give up (never give up)! You will only get better, and more confident in your art, with time.
Lola Allen Getting to create new characters and stories, and in effect, my own worlds! I also love connecting with other authors and sharing our ideas creatively, as I believe this is very powerful, and can only improve our art.
Lola Allen It might sound like a contradiction, but the best way to deal with writer's block is to keep writing! After completing and publishing my first novel, The Heartless Game, I took a 2 year hiatus...too scared to write anything more. Fast forward to 2015, and I have written so much more than I could ever have dreamed! I'm in love with writing and will never stop. I advise all budding writers to do the same - don't give up on your art, it's too important!
