Kathi Nidd I was home alone during a snowstorm late at night and listening to the wind. After that, I wrote the first half of Chapter 2 of Snowdrifts (the first chapter I wrote) but that was long before I knew Andrea and Joe or the reasons behind him being late.
Kathi Nidd This is never a problem for me. Stories come to me fast and furious and in many ways such as seeing an interesting looking person and wondering their story or observing an interaction. I also get a lot of ideas from my dreams.
Kathi Nidd I'm working on a new novel which is also a mystery. It is literally titled "Unfinished" because it involves a writer who dies and her work is not completed. I am also writing a short story about a six year old girl whose family was killed when she was two.
Kathi Nidd Write without fear. Write like no one will read it so that you aren't afraid of it not being good and you aren't afraid that you are revealing too much. As Stephen King teaches in "on Writing", you can always pull back what you wrote if it is too revealing.
Kathi Nidd Escaping into my story. I also absolutely love it when others read a story I wrote and I feel like they know my characters as well as I do.
Kathi Nidd I used to not deal with it well. I'd do everything under the sun besides writing. I'd even iron - and I hate ironing! Somewhere along the line I learned that writer's block, for me, stems from fear of imperfection. I learned that I was avoiding continuing because what I wrote might not be as good as it was in my head. I learned then to just write without fear of imperfection. Just write something and promise myself that no one will have to read it until I have a chance to make it better. After that, I never had writer's block again.
