Earl Smith and I are currently working on 2 projects: revisions to a 3rd edition of The Social Dynamics of Family Violence, and a new project: Gender, Power and Violence that explores the structures of 5 social institutions: the military, prisons, fraternities, sports and the Catholic Church, that allow for high rates of violence against women and children. We hope both will be released sometime in 2019!

Watching what seemed to be the nearly continuous feed on the news and FB and twitter of Black men (and some women) being murdered by the police Earl Smith and I began to talk about this book. What was missing in the journalistic accounts of the murders, the ensuing riots in Ferguson and Baltimore, was a clear discussion of race. We felt we could write a book that helped the reader see clearly the way that racist policies and practices are orchestrated in a variety of ways to police Black bodies.
