Christa Maurice Other than my own, Tom and Sybil from Downton Abbey (which might be because I'm bingeing it right now.) Both of them are very innocent but determined. Sybil never seems to feel she's in over her head whens he commits to becoming a nurse and forges ahead when it's difficult, so I get the feeling that, as a middle-class housewife in Dublin, she was the same way. Tom is an idealist and he's surprised when the tzar's family is shot and later when that family's house is burned in Dublin and he has to run and leave Sybil behind. He is almost more naive than Sybil and needs her strength. She needs his independence to break free of the suffocating life she's been born to. I would have loved to see a spin off show of their lives in Dublin.

Ask me next week and it might be Ronan Dex and Jennifer Keller on Stargate Atlantis or Georgianna and Darcy from Rhys Bowen's Royal Spyness series (though that might not be until summer because I think that's when the next book is due.)
Christa Maurice I wrote Heaven Beside You a few years ago and for some reason I was daydreaming about the rest of the band members having dinner together and somebody asked Bear how he met Maureen. And then I was committed to writing the rest of the band's stories and then the stories of their friends. I fighting the impulse to write even more tertiary stories because it's going to take years to put out all that I have now.
Christa Maurice How can I not? I watch the news and think "wow, I wonder what really happened." I drive past a sign and think, "you know what would be funny?" I look across the street and think, "What's that over there?"
Christa Maurice I'm between projects right now. I hate taking the break, but if I don't elements of the last story carry into the next and I end up ripping out and starting over.
Christa Maurice Read everything, write as much as you can and experiment. Don't dismiss a genre because you think you can't or don't want to.
Christa Maurice I like seeing the characters develop, especially when they do something I wasn't expecting or end up acting true to form books later. My editor commented that it was funny to see Maureen from book 1 show up at a function in book 4.5 with a dish because in book 1 she had nearly had a melt down because she hadn't brought a dish.
Christa Maurice I fight it every step of the way. I like to get in a minimum word count every day and if I don't I'm more frustrated than if I have to delete and start over, so fighting is the best of bad options.
