Hi, I've answered your other message, but basically the answer is that the book hasn't been released yet. Early summer 2021! It will then be available on Amazon. Thanks. :o)

I am now revising the companion novel to my debut, THE BODY INSTITUTE. This new book takes the loose threads from the end of book 1 and continues them from another character's point of view. But you'll find familiar characters from book 1 inside! The book is called SPARES.

Hi Tris! I'm so glad you enjoyed The Body Institute. People frequently ask me about a sequel. This is what I tell them: Originally I had a sequel planned, but as my agent and I looked for publishers for TBI, the novel STARTERS came out. The sequel as I had it outlined at the time sounded really similar--and without as much of the weight issues of TBI, there wouldn't be as much to make it stand out from STARTERS. But I haven't totally ruled out the possibility of continuing Morgan's story. Happy reading! :o)

Hi Gav! Under every book on Goodreads are links to places you can buy copies. Sometimes these links are more complete and work better than others, so you could also just go to your favorite bookseller online and search for "The Lying Planet." Regretfully, the time for handing out free ARCS (advanced reader copies) is over, but $3.99 isn't too bad to pay. It does depend on what format you want, what e-reader you have. Message me if you want to discuss that in more depth. :) I hope you can get a copy and enjoy the book!

Hi Jennifer, Thanks for your question! I've answered this...oh, somewhere around here on Goodreads, but right now I don't see it. Originally I had a sequel planned, but as my agent shopped TBI around to publishers, STARTERS came out. The sequel (at least how I had it outlined at the time) sounded really similar, so we set it on the back burner. Especially without so much of the weight issues of TBI, there wouldn't be as much to make the sequel stand out from STARTERS. That being said, I haven't totally ruled out the possibility of continuing Morgan's story. I'm so glad you read and enjoyed it! Unlike a lot of authors, I really enjoy writing standalone books, and my other two published books are not part of a series either. I hope you can find them at some point in your library! Happy reading. :o)

Hi Gav! That's great you LOVE to read. As far as what's appropriate, it depends a little on each reader and his/her experience. My books are actually fairly PG rated. This means kids under 12 or 13 might not be ready for some of the themes and scenes, but most over that age would be. There IS death involved in The Lying Planet, but not grisly violence or sex or profanity; that's just not how I write. If you want a sample of the openings of my books, read an excerpt on my website at http://www.carolriggs.com/ or Amazon also has opening excerpts. The Lying Planet starts out with a dead body. If that makes you squeamish or uncomfortable, it might be a clue that other books might be more appropriate for you. Thanks for your question! and if you read my books, I hope you enjoy them. :o)

The germ seed for THE BODY INSTITUTE happened when I found myself wondering, "If I were in someone else's body, would I do the exact same things that person does?"--and more specifically, "If I were in a body of someone who was overweight, could I lose weight FOR them?" I started thinking about how much our appearance affects our personality.
At first I thought my mind would stay the same regardless of whatever body I was in. Sure, I could lose that weight, easy-peasy. But upon further thought...maybe my personality and beliefs would begin to morph once I was in that person's shoes, while experiencing all the things that affect her daily life. Situations, friends, family, strangers, societal pressures. I was fascinated by this scenario.
THE BODY INSTITUTE presents a near future in which it's possible to be downloaded into someone else's body--a weight loss program where Reducers take on the job of losing weight for others. The book asks the question: Are we our minds...or our bodies?
