In the late 1960s I did quite a bit of traveling throughout Europe, as well as taking the so-called 'Hippie Trail' from Istanbul to India and Nepal. Thousands of young people from Europe and America were doing the same at the time, and I am sure there are many stories that have been told, and are yet to be told, about their experiences. However, this is the first full-length novel I am aware of which brings that era to life in a way which Joseph Conrad famously prescribed as the writer's task: that is, "by the power of the written word to make you hear, to make you feel...above all, to make you see."
