Alicia Emamdee Hi Michael! That's what I did, with my novel "Aloha Self-Esteem?" A lot of me is in the main character, Jennifer Gonzalez. She is shy and quiet like I was in high school, and I also suffered with low self-esteem like she did and went through my own journey to improve my self-esteem. My writing, especially with regards to this novel, is inspired by some aspects of my life and what I've personally experienced. :)
Alicia Emamdee Everything and anything inspires me! From family to friends, to children, to people I meet just out and about, to reading, to nature…the list goes on and on. I can’t tell you how many times talking with someone has inspired me in some way. You never know what you might learn or what someone might say that can motivate and inspire you to do something you never thought you would be able to do.
Alicia Emamdee I am currently working on promoting my YA romance novel "Aloha Self-Esteem?" for teen girls on improving self-esteem. I am also in the process of doing research for my second book in this self-esteem series for women in their 30s and 40s. The main character in the book is the Mom of the main character in "Aloha Self-Esteem?" She gets so inspired by her daughter's determination to improve her self-esteem that she goes on her own self-esteem journey as well.
Alicia Emamdee Don't give up on your dream. Just start writing and see where it goes from there. You never know where your story might take you. Also, set small goals for yourself. If you look at the whole picture of "Oh my god! I have to write an entire farrreakin' book!" you'll never finish it. Set aside some time to write even if it's just a few minutes a day a few times a week, and in a few months you'll see how much you've progressed. If you find yourself getting frustrated due to writer's block, walk away and come back to it at a later time. It can be overwhelming and frustrating at times, but it's all worth it in the end so keep going! And when you're finally finished with your masterpiece, you can literally say, "Oh my god, I just wrote an entire farrreakin' book!" ;)
Alicia Emamdee I like the freedom of expressing myself. It's a release for me, and just like reading a good book, I can escape from the everyday and delve into a whole new world. Plus, if my stories can inspire and motivate others, then that's a huge bonus!
Alicia Emamdee I step back and take a break for a little while. When my mind stops racing, I try to write again. I'll come back and read what I wrote earlier that day and go from there. If I still have writer's block, I'll step back again and usually, when I least expect it, an idea will pop into my head. If I'm away from my computer, I'll write the idea in my notebook app on my phone so that I don't forget it because that little memory of mine is really and truly awful and needs all the help it can get!
