Oh dear. This question is like Oreos--I can't list just one. For all-consuming love, I choose Anna and Count Vronsky. For enduring, partnership love, Ellie and Carl from the movie Up. For healing love, Celie and Shug Avery.

I've always liked the paranormal and the vampire concept, specifically. Overture came out of that interest. I started with the idea of the vampire lead, and Elma really unfurled organically on her own. I had recently been reading HP Mallory's Dulcie O'Neill and Jolie Wilkins series, which are great, and I wanted to infuse her candid, humorous style of narrative into the book, mixed with some more classically
literary prose that I grew up on as a writer. It's a fun mix.

I'm inspired by passion. I think (and I intimate the same on my blog The Torrid Forties, that we should all pursue a passion, whether as a full-time job or a weekend hobby. I'm passionate about writing and impassioned by the words of the greats, from Anne Frank to Shakespeare. So I write.

I'm drafting Allegro (Book Two in the Overture series) at the moment. I have a new blog post in the hopper too, one which is sorely in need of attention. I also just got an idea for a new mystery plot while I was brushing my teeth (literally), so maybe that will get some brain space too.

Freedom. Freedom to say what you please, communicate what matters to you or consumes your thoughts at the moment, and the physical freedom to live in the social world while you're at work.

I move away from it. For me, a change of focus, even if for half an hour, can make a big difference. Ideas flow when you turn off your conscious brain sometimes.
