Ann Jacobus Hi Latoya, sorry you missed the presentation but SCBWI NM has a recording that the RA can share for the next couple of weeks, should you want to see it. Who is your favorite fictional couple, and why?
Ann Jacobus One of my favorite fictional couples is Penpen and Tilly Menuto from Polly Horvath's THE CANNING SEASON, the "great-second-cousins-once removed" of the main character, Ratchet. I love them because they are an odd couple, darkly hilarious, and kind.

How do you get inspired to write?
Ann Jacobus I mostly just show up for work, what writers call butt-in-chair. Writing a first draft is usually the toughest for me, although it can also be the most surprising and fun. To help get through it I do research, take long walks, and/or meditate.

Ann, do you know the release date of the paperback version yet? Keep me posted so I can re-check the Paris bookshops for it!
Ann Jacobus Unfortunately, I don't know anything about a paperback release at this point, GKN, but I will post info here and elsewhere whenever I hear anything! Thanks for asking.

Are you working on anything new right now?
Ann Jacobus Hi, Janna, Right now I'm working on a ghost story/thriller set in Arkansas. But my newest novel will be out on March 7, 2023. It's about an 18-year-old young woman who finds herself taking care of her beloved, terminally-ill aunt, as she struggles with her own mental health and troubled past!

How do you deal with writer’s block?
Ann Jacobus Stop spending time all by myself and engage with family, friends, and the outside world. Read, see films, exhibits, i.e. get inspired by other artists. Also, in a work-in-progress, back up to where you weren't blocked, and try a different direction.

Ann Jacobus Hanging out all by myself : )

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?
Ann Jacobus Make writing a top priority. Read widely. Write as much as possible. Never give up.

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?
Ann Jacobus I got the idea for Romancing the Dark in the City of Light over 12 years ago after a disturbing incident in the Paris Metro. It wouldn't leave me alone.
