Brandon Draga I'll let you in on a secret: if someone says they aren't afraid of dying, it's because they never did. It's after you come back that you become truly terrified of what happens next.
Brandon Draga If we're being honest, most fictional book worlds are not somewhere where one might like to visit. If I had to choose, though, I'd say that the world Patrick Weekes created for his "Rogues of the Republic" series, because it seems a stable enough place for an everyperson, and it has coffee.
Brandon Draga Oh, you! *blush*
I'd like to think I'm a solid 7/10 with rice. I've said more than once that I'm pretty much the Pierce Brown of authors who aren't as successful or handsome as Pierce Brown.
Brandon Draga Michael J. Sullivan's "Age of Swords" is definitely a top contender. I also need to start on Brian McClellan's new Powder Mage trilogy.
Beyond that, I have so many independent author friends whose works I need to read (or finish reading): A.A. Jankiewicz's Q-16 books, Darrell Dake's "A Star-Reckoner's Lot", and (although it isn't indie) Michael R. Fletcher's "Beyond Redemption", just to name a few.
Brandon Draga The Idea evolved from a conversation I had with my sister regarding the recent wave of dystopian YA novels. She thought I ought to try writing one, and I really wanted to write a fantasy novel.
Brandon Draga Again, by writing. Your first draft will never be one-hundred percent perfect, so embrace that. Just let the words flow, and worry about how it sounds later.
Brandon Draga When writing, the best thing is sitting down for three or four hours at a time, and getting a chance to write that scene that will just make you say "wow". After the fact, the best thing is having someone tell you they felt the same way when they read it.
Brandon Draga If you have an idea that you think is great, write it down. Sit down, and write with every free moment you have. It can take a long time to wedge open the gates of the creative mind, and effort to keep them ajar, but if you do you'll find a wealth of ideas that cannot help but flow out.
Brandon Draga My two current projects are the follow-up to "The Summerlark Elf", and a picture book called "Dragon in the Doghouse".
Brandon Draga The most honest answer, and this may sound cliche, is by writing. If I finish a chapter or a passage that I really like, it encourages me to press on.
