H.L.H. Pattison Just write. That's all. I mean, it's good to talk to people and to learn and to experience life and to love as many things as you can.

"The best way to know life is to love many things," is I think, a Van Gough quote.

The better you live, the better a writer you will be. The more honest, the more true, the more in your own spirit you can be. It's a different path for us all, so we all think different thoughts and write different stories, and that's fine; our works will all touch different people in different ways.

The best garden is not just even rows of the same plant. It's a thriving plethora of different lifeforms all sharing soil and sunshine.

Or that's a perspective, anyway.
H.L.H. Pattison The idea for "Doctor Destroyo" came from a conversation not unlike the one inside the book, where the characters themselves come up with the concept of Doctor Destroyo.

My best friend and I were wandering around the city, one day specifically taking the sea-bus across the water to North Vancouver, and we just kept coming back to the idea, of how you could pretend to be a super-villain here in the real world. What that would look like, how people would respond...

But that all speaks to the meta-quality that inhabits Doctor Destroyo; the origin of the book is very similar to the origin of the character himself. Intriguing, no?
H.L.H. Pattison The only way I know of to deal with writer's block, is to write. I've had a saying that I've told myself for years... "Writing only happens when your fingers are moving across the keys."

Of course, writing can also happen when you're using a pen or a pencil, but hopefully you can see the larger point. Writing only happens when you're writing. If you want to write, you have to write. That's the only thing that will put words on the page.

That said, there comes a time when every writer has to step away from the work, and take a walk. Put some headphones on and listen to some music, or a podcast. Smell the air, make some tea, feed some birds, go down to the gym for an hour, talk to an old friend, or make a new friend by engaging with any of the many wonderful people who populate wherever you might be living.

Inspirations are everywhere, in almost alarming over-abundance.
