Carlos Salinas A lot of things inspire me to write: a good conversation with a friend, or hearing a story (with a detail that could spark a completely different, amazing story), reading, watching movies (and wanting to improve them!), watching people, listening to music, and many more ways that are so natural that we do not notice them!
Carlos Salinas A writer wanted to write. That writer never wrote.

(Nothing's scarier than that!)
Carlos Salinas Funny you should ask! I only do that when my characters stop talking to me. By that logic, doesn't every writer talk to himself or herself?
Carlos Salinas I wish they knew that most authors (especially independent, self-published authors) love to hear from their readers! Any time I get a message on Facebook, Instagram, or any social media, I am truly delighted! Whether they tell me what they liked/disliked about my book, or ask me questions, it means a lot to know that someone out there read my work and took time out of their day to reach out to ME. Out of the thousands of authors out there, this message was written to me. I am shocked by the fact that when I respond most readers say that they never thought I would actually answer! Maybe the authors that get tons of messages struggle to keep up, but I don't get anywhere near that many, ha-ha. I will always try to answer all my messages in a timely manner. I hope my readers know they can reach out to me on the links below! I have an account on almost every network but these are the ones I focus on mostly. Thank you again for your question, Leonardo!

Carlos Salinas I am currently wrapping up my Young Adult/HipHopFiction/UrbanFiction "Got the Flow: The Hip Hop Diary of a Young Rapper" (Book 1 of 3). Troy Jones is a 16-yr-old high school student with the dream of becoming a successful rapper. Not chasing fame, Troy wants to help his mother who works three jobs to support her family after Troy’s father was killed as a bystander in a tragic drive-by. Having problems in school, Troy tries to get I.S.S. as often as he can so he can work on his rap lyrics. Mrs. Hass, his science teacher hates rap & hip-hop music and constantly gives Troy a hard time. On the other hand Troy’s English teacher, Mr. Salas, is a beacon of hope and inspiration to the young, aspiring rapper. Mr. Salas provides him with the tools to improve his craft of writing hip-hop lyrics. When Troy’s best friend Jimmy moves to another school, Troy’s opportunity to perform in rap battles arrives. Being a nobody, he has nothing to lose and everything to gain. Along the way, he meets a love interest, suffers a big loss, meets his idol rapper and an ex-con, gets his music equipment stolen, and has doubts about his rapping ability. He knows that he does not only want to succeed; he needs to succeed. It's due out in August 2017 and will be available through Amazon's pre-order and on Smashwords for all other platforms! :)

I've had so many people ask me this recently and I think it all boils down to this: writers write! Tell your stories orally to people, write them in a spiral notebook, or keep them on a file in your computer. Even if you're not ready to share them with anybody, you must tell them. I always think of this quote by R.A. Salvatore: "If you can quit, then quit. If you can't quit, you're a writer."
Carlos Salinas I love that you are a creator and a magician. With words in your arsenal you create worlds that readers can lose themselves in and find themselves at the same time. I consider it a true privilege to have the faith & trust from the reader that my words will take them on a journey they will enjoy and hopefully never forget! Thank you.
Carlos Salinas I read or listen to watch a movie and BAM! a word, character, or facial expression triggers a creation flow and gets me right back on track. Even just going for a walk and clearing your mind for a while can help you get back into focus!
