Yvonne Sanders There is inspiration for writing all around us all the time. Sometimes it's in the most unlikely places or the most simple of situations. It can come in the form of conversations we're privy to or overhear. It could be the news or work or leisure. But it always comes as a small epiphany that whispers its presence and desire to be told - some small revelation that comes packaged inside an event around us, already formed in it's own interpretation of itself and clambering for attention inside my head. My job is to give it a voice. It's kind of lovely.
Yvonne Sanders I'm currently working on an historical fiction novel set in wartime Holland. This is the land of my mother's childhood and a time of turmoil and tragedy for Europe and the world. It robbed many of their lives. It robbed my mother of the innocence of childhood. It's a moving story to write about and a privilege to be able to tell it.
Yvonne Sanders Writers write! If you're a writer, you really can't help writing. I think every writer must have something that drives them to keep going. All the best advice I've ever read from other writers is to just keep doing it... a little everyday, if you can. Like everything, the more you do the better you get at it. You can never really get enough writing anyway, so just keep going.
Yvonne Sanders There is always that wonderful rush at the end of a writing session. I think it must be those endorphins that make us feel so good. I call it my drug of choice... for some it's riding a bike or running a marathon... for me it's writing!
