I'm good at helping writers who are blocked. But I'm no good at helping myself. So I'd go see a coach who works with creatives/writers, to get a new perspective. The best way through it is to write anyway, even if it's awful. Permission to do a really shitty first draft is really liberating. It doesn't have to be perfect straight away. And write every day, even if it's just for 10 minutes, or 200 words.

Seeing it published! I don't often enjoy the actual writing. But I love researching, meeting interesting people and asking lots of questions, travelling to new places and learning new things. You get all of that as a writer. Plus, you don't have to get up and go into an office every day. Not unless you want to.

Write. And write. And write. Then publish some of it (on Medium, on your own blog, wherever you can). Get feedback. And write some more. You get better, the more you do it.

I write a weekly blog post at www.thecreativelife.net. I'm working on two new books. One is a ghost-writing project that won't have my name on it at all. The idea came from the person whose name will be on it, who is rather more famous than me! The second is an idea I had this summer. I wanted to book to help me with something, searched for it and found it didn't exist. So I'm writing it! And I'm being a bit cryptic on that because it's nowhere near done yet.

Reissuing Adventures In Wonderland, my book on British club culture and the collection of Gavin Hills' writing, Bliss To Be Alive came about just because they were out of print, and so many people asked for copies. Gavin's book was selling for £200 or more second-hand, and he would have hated that. It's good to have both available digitally for £5.99 now.
