Hmm. Do Frodo and Sam count? It's non-romantic (for the most part), but there are so many interesting layers to it—from Sam's devotion and loyalty to someone he sees as his superior, to Frodo's reliance on Sam's seemingly indefatigable optimism, to tender moments of shared grief. It's really quite remarkable.
