My daughter did something kind for a lonely senior adult man on Thanksgiving. It made me wonder why he and others dining alone on Thanksgiving would be lonely enough to do so. The Lonesome, Party of Six series is a result of my mind running loose on that topic.

Give yourself at least two or three years before you quit. In that time you will learn more than you ever thought possible and be more able to identify your voice. My books "happen" because I no longer give myself the option to stop writing them.

When I sit down to write, I know that there are many other areas of my life that are calling for attention, so I need to make the most of my writing time. That compels me to get started. Once I get started, I can usually crank out a few hundred words. The editing process will take care of less-inspired writing, but simply writing keeps the story moving and the ideas churning...at least a little.
