Tracy M. Joyce My most recent book, Altaica, originated in a round about way. I dreamed a scene that will go in the second duology of The Chronicles of Altaica, which is still two books away. From this scene I wondered about the history behind the stories and came up with Altaica and Asena Blessed, which will be out in 2015.
Tracy M. Joyce I can't seem to shut my imagination down, so everything inspires me - dreams, history, myth, folklore and observing people around me and their relationships and reactions.
Tracy M. Joyce I am currently working on book two in The Chronicles of Altaica, Asena Blessed.
Tracy M. Joyce Work hard and constantly strive to improve your craft. Check out your local writers' centre etc for any courses or Master Classes in areas you think you might need to work on, join a good writers' group where you will get constructive feedback in a supportive environment. Research your market because at the end of the day your book has to be marketable by agents and publishers. Persevere - One publisher gave me a great piece of advice, "Nothing happens quickly in publishing." So keep writing, keep trying to get published and always strive to be better.
Tracy M. Joyce There are a few great things about being a writer: working my own hours and finally getting to let my imagination loose and get all those ideas down on paper. Also meeting and chatting with readers who love your stories as much as you do, is hugely rewarding.
Tracy M. Joyce Writer's block: The only way through it is to write. Sounds crazy, but if you never pick up your pen or sit at your keyboard and just keep telling yourself that you don't know what to write then you'll never get anywhere. At times I will be at a loss about a direction to take with a scene or my characters or simply not sure if something is working. When this happens I just keep writing and trying different ideas. I wrote three versions of the beginning of my next book and didn't like any of them. Finally I printed them off, and highlighted the bits I liked in each, sometimes only a paragraph or a line here and there, and combined them into another version that worked. Persevere.
