Callie James It (Stephen King), Young Elites series and more...
Callie James Tessa Gray and Will Herondale from the clockwork series--Infernal Devices 1-3. These two were opposite enough to make them interesting without making them too maddening. And,of course, Will has an excellent reason not to be with her...until he doesn't, and by then his best friend, Jem Carstairs, has entered the picture. I'm not a fan of love triangles but this one ripped my heart out. It was as difficult for me to choose between Will and Jem as the best pick for Tessa. In the end, I chose Will because he challenged her more, even though I liked Jem better. Jem was such a sweetie but not likely to force Tessa to grow as much as Will might have. Luckily, fate decides for them.
Callie James Writer's block only happens when I've gone down the wrong path in my story or when I need to take a small break. I usually take a few days off, enjoy someone else' creativity (book or movie) and look seriously at deleting the last scene or at least rewriting it.
Callie James It gets me through everything, and I mean everything. I can't imagine my life without it.
Callie James Write what you want to read and what you're passionate about. It shows in your craft and it makes writing so much more enjoyable when you're working through blocks or edits.
Callie James I'm doing a complete rewrite of a YA I wrote long ago. Also working on the 2nd in my Violet Valley series.
Callie James Usually a life experience or an intriguing news story inspires my creativity.
Callie James What prompted me to write Home to Stay? For much of my life, I was a single mother of a child with severe Asperger's Syndrome (high functioning autism). This was likely the most difficult 18 years of my life...and then some. These years dramatically shaped me as a person, good and bad. They were so stressful that I eventually developed PTSD. Now add a new parent (by marriage) in there and you have an entirely different set of issues. I wanted to put these difficulties in a story that wasn't mine, but one that resembled many aspects of my experiences. And of course, Matt and Jess have their happy-ever-after.
