Read a lot (this helps you learn how to write better), write a lot, and also study proper grammar and styles. Don't let anyone read your first draft. Don't submit work you know is sloppy. A manuscript is never "done" until it is published. Never stop editing and proofing your manuscript until such time as it is accepted by a publisher, edited again, and published.
