Sarah Lariviere Hello, Pen & Quill! Please forgive my delay in responding to your questions! I had two major inspirations for The Bad Kid. Living in Sunset Park, Brooklyn in the early 2000s inspired the setting. I was working as a child and family social worker at that time, and the kids I worked with were all inspiring to me--so smart and funny; they filled my days with joy. Second, I was inspired by the idea of a lonely girl kicking around the neighborhood, resenting her family. Claude is very interested in the idea of gangsters, as many kids are--so I thought it would be interesting to give her a family filled with gangsters to deal with. My favorite form of chocolate is white chocolate bars. Total sugar bombs. I can only eat a little bit at a time! And my favorite thing to use as a bookmark is a ribbon. Now that I have a cat, this doesn't work so well--she loves to pull them out! Thank you again for your questions!
