Hello Sharon,
The most suprising thing I learned while creating the Sutton series is how completely my main character took over half way through book one. In Second Sight, book two, he definitely directed my imagination. Once he came to life fully in my mind, the storyline almost wrote itself. It is amazing how that happens and I didn't expect it when I began this journey.

I typically don't go looking for ideas, they come to me. The idea for my most recent book started with a story I was told by a homeless veteran several years ago. I can remember that entire conversation like it was yesterday. Although the book is not based on that specific story, the fact that those among our homeless population often witness criminal events and are seldom called as witnesses, is where I came up with Second Sight's eye witness, Hap. The first notes I made for Second Sight were about Hap, what he witnessed and the Hap character creation process is where I began the Second Sight story.

That is a tough question. I get inspired by many different things - big and small. In general, other people inspire me. Specifically, people who have overcome what I consider to be great obstacles in life inspire me. Spending time among the homeless population and hearing stories from people in dire circumstances also inspires me.

Just do it. Write every day. Write until you have enough for a novel. Choose your editor wisely and put it out there.

The best thing about being a writer is having control. I am able to control my characters behavior, actions and the outcome of whatever drama is unfolding.

When I am stuck in any stage or area of writing, the easiest way for me to get the creative juices flowing is to go run. I put my earphones in, turn up the music loud and run by the beach or bay.

Currently getting ready to go into the last phase for Second Sight.
I am also working on a non-fiction piece that deals with Vets and their battles with every day life AFTER combat.

Thanks for asking this! Yes, Sutton has a backstory and no, that isn't it. You will have to wait for book three for that information to be revealed. Stay tuned:)
