Michele Sharpe Inspiration often comes to me when I force myself to start writing, or when I plan a writing session in advance. For the past couple of months, I've been experimenting with a daily writing practice for an hour right after I wake up. It's working, and now I wish I'd started this practice earlier!

Images from the natural world often inspire me too, especially for poetry. Sometimes I take photographs of plant and animals that grab my attention, and I go back to them to pull out concrete details.
Michele Sharpe I'm currently working on a longer manuscript about my reunion with my family. I was separated from my family by adoption, and becoming re-integrated with them has led me to examine all sorts of personal, historical, political, and cultural issues through the lens of my love for them.
Michele Sharpe There are so many "best things" about being a writer. If I had to choose one, I'd say it's being in the creative flow that is the best. When I'm writing, whether drafting new material or revising, I feel nourished.

Then there's learning about people, history, the natural world, my family, and myself. Writing forces me to organize my thoughts, to research my assumptions, and to observe - closely - the world around me. That's pretty cool, too!
