Who is your favorite fictional couple, and why?
David Smith The nurse Hana and Kip from The English Patient

Hi David, last year I won a copy of "Death in Leamington", I have just realised that I didn't receive it and wondered why? I have to say I was unwell a large part of last year so it's no surprise I've only just realised. Just thought I'd bring it to your attention. Regards Helen Miles

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?
David Smith Nobody can read something you haven't published but vice versa has it's own risks!

What’s the best thing about being a writer?
David Smith I know it could never be my full time job but I find it very motivating, especially when you see the final product! It is also a very good discipline to make you read what others have written and understand what they are trying to say and how they express their ideas, build characters etc.

How do you get inspired to write?
David Smith I have a busy full-on executive role with a major UK company, so writing provides a welcome outlet for my more creative side. I get lots of ideas and do quite a bit of research online.

What are you currently working on?
David Smith I am working on a murder mystery called Death in Leamington!

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?
David Smith The book is set in Aldeburgh in Suffolk and Coggeshall in Essex, the area I lived in my twenties and thirties. Both places have evocative landscapes and lots of local stories and history that I have woven in to the narrative.

How do you deal with writer’s block?
David Smith I find most of my ideas arrive at unexpected moments or first thing in the morning. So I note them down. I write when travelling or in quiet moments at home!
