I get ideas for stories in the darnedest places! When I get an idea, it sort of just starts rumbling around in my head and it isn't long before it demands to be written. I have scads of ideas jotted down or first paragraphs hanging around waiting to be completed. I get really excited when the story really takes form and takes off on a life of its own - sometimes I don't even know where it will end, or how - I just have to keep at it until it builds itself.

Right now I am editing another novel I had written a few years ago, preparing it to upload on either Kindle or Nook. I have two other completed novels after this one gets finished and then I can go back to finishing the one that's been languishing on the shelf for quite a while.

Write! All it takes is one word, one sentence and you're on your way. I've heard people say to "write what you know" and that is really true. All of my stories have started out with inspirations from real life relationships, dilemmas, feelings, and I built from there.
The best thing you can do is read stories that you like, by authors you like, and then grab a pen & paper (or turn on the computer) and just do it. The greatest novel of all time begins with one word.

Being in control! After all, YOU write the story. YOU create the characters. YOU make them do what you want them to - way different from real life! It's really fun to see people and stories that you've made up in your head take shape and become real.

When writer's block happens I just try to go on to something else. I either work on another project, read a book, work in the garden - distract myself. Usually within a few days I wake up in the wee hours with the exact words I couldn't find before. I think my brain needs to relax and regroup sometimes.

Actually, the idea originated from an old relationship from many years ago. That relationship never really went anywhere, but served as a great idea for a book! After a while it just sort of took off and pretty much wrote itself!
