Jenny Manzer I am often inspired by news stories or things I observe while I am out and about: walking, riding the bus, grocery shopping. That's why I feel it is so important to pay attention to your surroundings and to listen rather than being glued to a smartphone. I have been known to eavesdrop. It can't be helped sometimes and definitely can provide inspiration!
Jenny Manzer I try to write a few hundred words every day, even they aren't all "keepers." If I am having trouble with a scene, I try to plough through so I can move on to the next one. That's why revision is so important!
Jenny Manzer Those times when you're at the computer and get swept away in the world you're creating on the page, forgetting where you are and "real life." But the very, very best thing is hoping you can bring that feeling to your readers.
Jenny Manzer I'm working on another YA novel, this time about young women on an inner-city track team. They are funny, rowdy, loyal, trash-talking "fast girls," and I am having a blast writing about them as well as exploring some of the darker problems faced by elite teen athletes. I am calling it Bridesmaids meets Friday Night Lights. For now.
