Maggie Fenton Hi! I just saw this, and don’t know if you’ve seen that there is in fact an audio of the Alabaster Hip now available on audible. I absolutely love the narrator so please check it out!! Also, just published a new book, Miss Benwick Reforms a Rogue. Audio is not ready yet, but it should be done this winter!!! Hope you enjoy!!!
Maggie Fenton Ha!! Been having the same problem with my mind... but I finally got a book done. 😀 it just came out, Miss Benwick Reforms a Rogue. I don’t know if you remember Davina from the other books. I couldn’t help myself and wrote her her own book. It’s a stand alone but has a few characters from the trilogy in it. Hope you like it!! Thanks for reading!
Maggie Fenton Hi Ursula, just saw your message after finally getting on my Goodreads account for the first time in probably over a year. In Which Author Remembers How Much She enjoyed your reviews of her books: I've been busy writing a new one and just finished it, so thought I'd give you a shout out since it's been so long (I'm a pathetically slow writer these days). It's called Miss Benwick Reforms a Rogue, and it is about to be released in a few days. I don't know why, but for some reason, I wrote a book about Davina Benwick. I hope you enjoy it!! :D
Maggie Fenton Hi Vickie, just saw this question--on a hiatus from Goodreads while I finished my book and actually had some news to report, so sorry for the late response. I have thought about writing Betsy's story, but for some odd reason, Davina Benwick's story came out instead. I just finished it: Miss Benwick Reforms a Rogue, and it is coming out on August 1. I hope you like it!!!
Maggie Fenton Hi, Mary. I too am hoping one day that will come to fruition! Haven't heard any word on it yet, but I am definitely pursuing it.
Maggie Fenton Thanks! So glad you like my books and my poem. It was pretty hard to write, but I just channeled Keats. It is actually based on a particular ode of his. I'm working on something new right now, but you'll get no spoilers from me. All I can say is that I'm very excited about it!! Extremely.

I have Betsy's story on the back burner. Maybe one day, and maybe a novella. I don't know yet.

:)

Maggie Fenton Hi, Keri. Maybe one day. I am thinking a novella for them? I'm working on a new series right now.
Maggie Fenton Hi! it's not rude at all! Please, read my books! : ) My steampunk pseudonym is Margaret Foxe. They are a lot more serious than my Maggie Fenton books, but I hope you enjoy them. They are steampunk/paranormal/victorian romance mashups.
Maggie Fenton Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed. The Duke's Holiday is the first book in the series, but I don't think it is going on a giveaway anytime soon. When the third book comes out, there definitely will be a giveaway, but I have no ETA on that! Thanks so much for your kind words!
Maggie Fenton Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it! There is no release date for Marlowe's story yet. I am still writing it :D He's a hot mess, so it might take a while!
Maggie Fenton Hi Raashmi,

Thanks so much for your compliments! I have no real process when I write. It just kind of comes when it wants to, which has been giving me a lot of problems lately (I am having a very difficult case of writer's block for my most recent Margaret Foxe book, which I was supposed to have written like a year ago!). I am myself working on the finer points of the process, but here are a few key things I focus on when writing, and and stuff I have learned since I started self-publishing a few years ago:

1.) play to your strengths (i.e. the things that you like most about writing). For instance, my strengths (I hope) are quirky characters, witty dialogue, and lots of UST between the hero and heroine. I never get tired of developing these things, and I use them to cover up my weaknesses (i.e. plot development *ugh*). The only thing I can say specifically about my process other than that is that I always imagine my characters first before I figure out anything else about my book. I know their backstories, their quirks, their strengths and weaknesses, and their unique "voices". Only after I know them well do I actually start writing. This helps immensely, at least for me.

2.) know and love your genre/audience and always write with them in mind. This is probably the most important advice I have for genre fiction writers. Like many readers of my genre, I have read literally thousands of historical romance books. I am very familiar with all of the conventions, history, vocabulary, and therefore what readers are looking for in my genre. Knowing your genre/subgenre like the back of your hand also allows you to break the rules/play with the conventions in smart and informed ways that will appeal to your audience.

3.) consider self publishing if you haven't already. Biting the bullet and self publishing was the smartest decision I ever made. After trying and failing at the traditional query/agent/publisher and nearly giving up on writing entirely, I self published my first Margaret Foxe book on a whim, and I haven't looked back. After getting such positive results with my Foxe books, I decided to self publish The Duke's Holiday, an old novel I had written years ago and had nearly forgotten about. The success I've had with The Duke's Holiday has been kind of mind blowing. I hope you have the same results! So, in short, self publishing is the way of the future ...

Oh, and be sure to get a really good professional book cover done! Everyone judges a book by its cover. I know I do!

I hope this helps!

Maggie Fenton Good question! I actually just found out from my publisher that the expected publishing date is October 2015!!!
Maggie Fenton Consider self-publishing. It's how I broke in to the business.
Maggie Fenton My characters always inspire me. They are the first thing I imagine when writing a book. For my Regency Romp Trilogy, my inspiration comes from my three leading men, Montford, Sebastian, and Marlowe, and their friendship, which ties together all three books.
Maggie Fenton I am currently working on my third Margaret Foxe steampunk book, Thief of Hearts, and gearing up to write Sebastian's story, Virtuous Scoundrel.
Maggie Fenton If someone else has the answer to this, let me know! I'm in the middle of a massive case of writer's block at the moment. I'm planning to wait it out much as I would a virus. It is bound to pass eventually.
Maggie Fenton When people tell me how much they like my books, I think I have the best job ever. Making money doing what you love isn't too shabby either.
