Who knows how it works. I read as much as I can, listen to and talk with other writers, seek out music and art when possible... but if I waited for inspiration to write, I'd hardly write a word. Instead, I write because it is time to do so.

The Skinned Bird is a collection of personal essays. They start in my earliest childhood and the most recent essay ends around last year, and they cover topics like divorce, breakups, moving--but they do so through scientific and pseudo-scientific lenses. While some of the essays might be described as sad, I like to think of them as honest and in that regard, they offer a rope or ladder to others stuck in wells of sadness, by which they might climb out.
